CONTINUING VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

The strength of the disaster efforts of the Paducah Area Chapter of the American Red Cross lies in its volunteers. Having individuals willing to serve during times of disaster is essential for Livingston, Ballard and McCracken County. If you are interested in helping your area respond to disasters, contact the chapter at 442-3575 or stop by and pick up a Volunteer Packet.

Some of the volunteer opportunities are:

• Disaster Action Team - response to local house fires and other disasters
• Office and Clerical Work - filing, computer, addressing envelopes
• Grant Research/Writer - searching out and applying for available grants
• Public Speakers - able to present the Red Cross story and disaster information to groups
• Marketing & Publicity - searching for opportunities to promote and sell RC services, products
• Maintenance - yard work, loading disaster vans, cleaning
• Pinch Hit Volunteers - respond on an as-needed basis with unanticipated tasks
• Armed Forces caseworker
• National Volunteers - volunteers trained to deploy to national disaster sites

All Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from the community. We depend on the skills of volunteers who contribute generously of their time and talents to those in need. The ARC does not receive government funding but is supported by the local United Way.

Stop by the Paducah Area Chapter at 232 N. 8th Street to pick up an application and find out more about becoming a volunteer. Volunteer meetings are held the second Monday of every month at 5 p.m. followed by a Disaster Action Team Meeting. Disaster classes are held the third and fourth Thursday evening of every month beginning at 6 p.m. Call for class topics or check the web calendar.
