The 2010 Disaster Preparedness Conference is scheduled for Aug. 30 & 31 at First Baptist Church in Paducah at 2890 Broadway St. The mission statement for the conference is to re-educate residents living in the six-state area of the earthquake threat in the New Madrid and Wabash Valley Seismic Zones. It strives to inform families, businesses, emergency service providers and individuals how to be prepared for, cope with and survive any natural disaster to this area. The two-day event will have several presenters on a variety of topics regarding disaster preparedness and response.
The conference fee of $25 for the entire two-day event includes all workshops and presentations as well as all snacks and meals. All are encouraged to register by August 13. Calling all Volunteers
BBQ on the River will need as many volunteers as our chapter can supply. Sept. 23-25 will be the dates for the event and we urge anyone wishing to help to contact Gracie at the chapter and give your name, the times you can work, the date and your phone number. This is a good fund raiser for the chapter.
Also, on Oct. 16 at Stuart Nelson Park we will hold our annual disc golf tournament. This year the name has changed to Red Cross Toss and include a Corn Hole Tournament. The disc golf tournament will be for 2-person teams and you can select your teammate or have a random draw teammate assigned to you. Prizes will be awarded for 1-3 places.
The corn hole competition requires a team of two and there will be a double elimination tournament. The events will begin at 10 a.m. Volunteers are need to for set-up, serving food, registration and support.
