Toyota Donates Truck to Paducah Chapter

A Toyota Tundra Pickup will be arriving at the Paducah Chapter this fall courtesy of the Toyota Corporation. Nationally, 10 fully loaded Tundra trucks were given to the American Red Cross and the Paducah chapter was one of those beneficiaries. The truck will be used to pull the disaster trailer when needed and for chapter activities. It will also be used should the portable generator be needed at a shelter site.

House Fires

house fire

The Paducah Chapter of the Red Cross has responded to approximately 15 house fires since January 1, 2008. Disaster Action Teams have helped local families recover from fires by providing immediate assistance. Local trained volunteers also assisted in relief efforts in Georgia, Indiana and Iowa.

Volunteers recently attended a shelter simulation exercise to train for setting up and operating a shelter in the event of a local disaster. Over 40 individuals took part in the simulation and completed the course.

Disaster training is offered free at the chapter on a monthly basis. The classes are offered on the fourth Thursday of every month on a variety of topics. Classes begin at 6 p.m. Call ahead for course topics and questions about prerequisites. Additional courses are often held during the workday and these are scheduled on as needed basis. Several beginning disaster courses are also available online. Contact the chapter for additional information on course times and topics and online learning opportunities.

Local Disaster Volunteer MONTHLY Meetings

In 2007, all Local Disaster Volunteers are encouraged to attend monthly meetings held on the FIRST SATURDAY OF EACH MONTH (except September, which will be held on the 8th of Sept). All meetings will begin at 10 a.m. and will be held in the chapter building.
Please join us as we take steps to continually improve our local disaster preparedness. The process is never ending and always needs volunteer support.

The Chapter’s New Disaster Trailer is Ready for Action!

HRSA funds helped the chapter acquire the new 6’ x 10’ trailer which will be utilized to haul equipment and supplies in time of disaster. Paducah resident Rodney Hays designed the stickers for identifying the trailer and the Shadow Angel Foundation (Beau Dodson) provided the funding for the stickers. Thanks for supporting our chapter!

Now all we need is a vehicle to pull the trailer! The chapter would accept a donation of a quality, used vehicle such as a van or truck. Please consider helping your local Red Cross Chapter in it efforts to be prepared to respond in time of disaster.
