Disaster Disaster

DISASTER SERVICE VOLUNTEERS at the Paducah Area Chapter help neighbors in our own community, across the country and around the globe. Local Disaster Action Teams respond to house fires, ice storms, tornados or other disasters in our area bringing hope, comfort kits, lodging, clothing and food. Prepared, trained and ready to respond are goals of Disaster Services.

Volunteer meetings are held the second Monday of every month at 5:00 p.m.The meeting is followed by a Disaster Action Team (DAT) meeting. DAT teams respond to local house fires and disasters in the community.

Disaster classes are held the third and fourth Thursday of every month beginning at 6 p.m. These classes are required before a volunteer can serve on a DAT team or deploy to a national disaster relief effort. Consult the Disaster Classes page for a description of class offerings.

Disaster volunteers also provide community education and awareness about preparedness. A vital component of Disaster Services is preparing the community for a disaster and encouraging every home to have a disaster plan and enough supplies on hand to last 3 days in the event of a disaster.

Joy Cook, Disaster Chairman and Nancy Neville oversee the program and can be contacted at 442-3575. A new volunteer packet is available at the chapter office detailing opportunities for service.
