They are followed by the Disaster Services Overview class for individuals wanting to volunteer specifically in the area of disaster response.

Disaster Classes

Disaster Instructor Specialty Training coming up. March 1 & 2

Disaster Instructor Specialty Training will be held at the chapter for volunteers wanting to teach disaster courses. Janine Brown, Senior Director of Disaster Services for the Louisville Region, will be conducting the training.

ALSO: Disaster Services Overview will be taught Feb. 23 at the chapter office. The first module will begin at 4:30 p.m. and at 6 p.m. the second module is scheduled. All volunteers wanting to work in disaster related fields must complete this course.


Beginning disaster classes include but are not limited to:

  • Disaster Services Overview
    Introductory course about the American Red Cross role in providing disaster response.
  • Intro to Disaster Services
    Introduces participant to basic ARC disaster response.
  • Mass Care
    Discusses Emergency Response Vehicles, sheltering and providing food during disasters.
  • Shelter Operations
    Course describes how to set-up, run and maintain a shelter.
  • Disaster Assessment
    Course describes method of determining and assessing the amount of damage to structures.
  • CLS/CAC
    Course describes method of determining the amount of emergency support services clients need.
