UPCOMING CHAPTER TRAINING:

PROFESSIONAL RESCUER CPR/AED

This class is for Health Care Providers who need a more advanced CPR class for their occupation. Nursing students, firefighters and EMTs take this course.

Recent Wilderness First Aid class at Lake Glendale.

Classes Classes

Health & Safety Classes

Adult, Child and Infant CPR/AED and First Aid Classes:

Community classes are held the second Saturday of every month from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. They are also offered on the third Monday and Tuesday of every month. CPR is offered on Monday evening from 6-10 p.m. and First Aid is offered Tuesday evening from 6-9 p.m. CPR certification is valid for 1 year, First Aid certification is valid for 3 years.

Professional Rescuer CPR/AED:

This class is designed for healthcare workers, nursing students and professional rescuers. The course is offered monthly as needed and is a 4 hour course. Certification is valid for 2 years. Lifeguard certification for Professional Rescuer is good for 1 year.

Lifeguarding:

Classes available through Brooks Pool, 443-1778, and Energy Fitness Midtown,443-7529. Dates and registration information varies and provider can be contacted directly for that information. Lifeguard certification is valid for 3 years; CPR is valid for 1 year. Waterfront and waterpark certification is also available.

Instructor Training:

The 20 hour course is required to be eligible to teach Layresponder CPR/FA/AED. Prerequisites include approval by the Health & Safety Director and ability to pass CPR/FA challenge test.

Babysitting:

Designed for students 11-17, this 7 hour course teaches young adults resume' writing, accident prevention, age appropriate games, diapering, feeding infants and basic first aid.

Wilderness First Aid:

Developed in conjunction with the Boy Scouts of America, this class is designed for individuals who will be in areas where help may be delayed more than 30 minutes. This 16 hour course is scheduled in the fall and spring months and involves outdoor scenarios.


Disaster Classes

Courses are held the on the 3rd and 4th Thursday of every month. Contact the office for course titles and times.

Beginning disaster classes include but are not limited to:

  • Fulfilling Our Mission (FOM)
    Introductory course about the American Red Cross role in providing disaster response.
  • Intro to Disaster Services
    Introduces participant to basic ARC disaster response.
  • Mass Care
    Discusses Emergency Response Vehicles, sheltering and providing food during disasters.
  • Shelter Operations
    Course describes how to set-up, run and maintain a shelter.
  • Disaster Assessment
    Course describes method of determining and assessing the amount of damage to structures.
  • CLS/CAC
    Course describes method of determining the amount of emergency support services clients need.

There is no charge for disaster courses.
