Health and Safety Classes
The Red Cross is a leader in community and workplace training in CPR, first aid, aquatics and care giving. Annually the Red Cross trains over 12 million people a year with the skills necessary to help save lives. A brief description of the various classes we offer at the chapter and in the workplace are listed below.
Adult, Infant and Child CPR/First Aid and AED training with first aid.
This is a comprehensive first aid and CPR course for the general public.
Course includes:
- Identify and prevent potentially hazardous condition
- Giving appropriate care in emergency situations
- How and when to activate the Emergency Response System
- Administering CPR and rescue breathing for adults, children and infants
- Giving care for a variety of injuries and sudden illness
- When and how to use an Automatic External Defibrillator
The full course is approximately 7 hours and is offered the second Saturday of every month and the third Monday and Tuesday of every month. The course can be divided by taking only the CPR/AED portion which is four hours or the First Aid portion which is approximately 3 hours.
CPR Recertification
This class is available to anyone with a current certification that is ready to expire. It is an abbreviated course and lasts approximately 2-3 hours depending on class size. It is currently offered every other month. Call the chapter office for times and to register.
Wilderness First Aid
This course is designed in conjunction with the Boy Scouts of America and is required by certain camps within the Boy Scout organization. It is also appropriate for any individual or family that will be in areas where emergency services may be delayed longer than 30 minutes. This includes those who live in rural areas, hunt, camp, hike or climb. It is offered in the spring and fall and is an overnight camping class. The course is 16 hours and involves outdoor activities.
Babysitting Training
This course is designed for youth 11-17 and teaches basic babysitting skills including changing, feeding, diapering and caring for infants, toddlers and school age children. It has many hands on scenarios and covers dealing with difficult situation. Basic first aid and child safety issues are discussed. The course is usually offered during the school year on Saturdays and is approximately 7 hours.
CPR for the Professional Rescuer
This course is the equivalent of the BLS course offered by the American Heart Association and is required by nursing students and by many in the medical field. It is an advanced version of CPR/AED and is more specific in the techniques, assessment and care of those in life threatening situations.
The local chapter also offers courses in Bloodborne Pathogens, Emergency Response Training, Instructor Training to be a CPR/First Aid instructor for your workplace or community and Basic First Aid. Introduction to Disaster Services
ARC3066: The purpose of this course is to provide basic
information about disaster and its effects, to outline the role
of agencies (both government and non-government) in disaster relief,
and to introduce the participants to the American Red Cross Services.
This course is a prepequiite for all Red Cross diaster courses and

Mass Care, Overview
ARC3068 - 1: The purpose of this course is to provide
basic information about the activities of the Mass Care Function.
Participants will learn about the skill and abilities needed by
Mass Care workers and how they can get started in their local chapter.

Shelter Operations
ARC3068 - 11: The purpose of this course is to prepare
Red Cross and other agencies' staffs to effectively and sensitively
manage shelter operations as a team and to meet the needs of people
displaced as a result of disaster. See Training Schedule for Date,

Shelter Simulation
ARC3068 - 12: The purpose of this course is to provide
particapants an opportunity to practice the knowledge and skills
needed to run a successful shelter operation. See Training Schedule

Damage Assessment
ARC3070 - 1: The purpose of this training is to prepare
staff to serve as damage assessment workers to obtain and report
damage assessment information and provide operational support on

Emergency Assistance to Families
ARC3072 - 1: This class will provide you with the
basics of how to provide assistance to families that have been the
victims of a disaster. What kinds of assistance the American Red
Cross provides will be covered. See Training Schedule for Date,

Records and Reports
ARC3078: The purpose of this course is to prepare
Red Cross paid and volunteer staff to organize, operate, and manage
the Records and Reports function within a service center and interact
with Administration, Family Service, Health Services, and other
functions present in the service center. See Training Schedule for

Important Notes for CPR and First Aid Classes:

No student will be given a reservation for any
class until payment is received at the Red Cross Office.

No refunds will be given. Cancellations,
after payment, may be rescheduled within six months.

Classes with less than six students may be cancelled
and rescheduled at the discretion of the Red Cross.

You must have a current American Red Cross Adult
CPR card if registering for First Aid or Infant CPR:

Most courses require strenuous activity - wear
comfortable clothing.

If you have a contagious disease, viral infection
or chronic conditions affecting your ability participate in
hands-on exercises, please call the Red Cross to discuss appropriate
arrangements.
